We’ve put together an elite team of Bow Valley locals—seasoned players and passionate mentors—driven to inspire and elevate the next generation of hockey stars
our journey to HELPING DEVELOP hockey players in the bow valley
Growing up in the Bow Valley, we coaches experienced firsthand the challenge of finding high-quality on- and off-ice training for hockey players. As elite players, we spent countless hours travelling just to find competitive teams, and summers offered little relief. Most of us trained alone or made costly trips to Cochrane or Calgary for high-level programs.
We were determined to change that. That’s why we created Be a Pro—to give back to the community that shaped us. Our mission is to provide affordable, high-intensity summer training that not only prepares players physically but also teaches them what it truly means to train like a pro.
At Be a Pro, we’re committed to helping young athletes build habits around more than just hockey and ensuring that athletes learn what it means to be a professional, whether that's in hockey or another area of life. We put a strong focus on mental health and mindset above all else, as we are strong believers that all good and bad things start in your mind.
sam jones
CO-FOUNDER, ON-ICE COACH + HEAD TRAINER
At the age of eight, Sam's family moved to Canmore from Birmingham, England. Sam grew up competing in and around the valley and has a decorated career that continues to this day.
Sam has spent time across many leagues before landing with the Sheffield Steelers in the EIHL—making a name for himself there for 4 seasons. He is now playing in the EIHL with the Guildford Flames. He’s also represented Team Great Britain several times at the World Championships playing against the best there is.
While playing, he earned a Bachelor of Business degree online. On top of that, Sam runs an elite-level online hockey training/nutrition program with a diverse hockey clientele (@samjoneshockeyperformance). He will be designing and operating the off-ice portion of our program.
Sam is the epitome of a pro. He’s expanded his game, his brand, and most importantly as a quality teammate and friend. He cares about the community and loves life in Canmore. He’s excited to share his expertise and collaborate with other locals pursuing the game we all love. His extensive knowledge of hockey, training, and nutrition is a massive asset to our team.
noah philp
CO-FOUNDER + HEAD ON-ICE COACH + MINDSET COACH
Noah grew up in Canmore, AB and has played hockey since he was 5 years old. He progressed through minors in Canmore, Calgary, Cochrane, and Airdrie.
After his first professional season in Bakersfield, Noah stepped away from hockey to experience life outside of it. A feeling to do so lingered in his conscience for years. Once he left the game, he became increasingly interested and practiced in meditative philosophy. It’s now a vital aspect for him every day, and he’s incredibly grateful for exploring new avenues. Noah is now coming off his second professional season with the Bakersfield Condors where he played his first NHL games with the Edmonton Oilers
He plans to bring a newly balanced approach to the hockey world through this program. Him and his brother Luke are creating the on-ice program and integrating mindfulness into the entire process. Noah loves athletics and loves to share knowledge. He’s passionate about hockey and the psychological aspect of sport and life in general.
Noah will be joining us for the first month of our Be a Pro Elite Program and 13-15 program as the head on ice coach. He will then be travelling to Australia to see family but will still play an active role in the program providing mindset training throughout the program online as well as assisting with on-ice programming.

“I’ve developed the ability to think faster, make plays under pressure, and handle harder passes that I don’t usually get. I’ve also improved my shooting in stride, which has made a big difference in my game”
I signed up for BE A PRO to improve my skills for the hockey season, and the program has absolutely helped me achieve that. I learned new moves and improved my positioning without the puck. What I liked most about the program was the competition with the older guys and the really good drills. The camp seemed really cool, especially with the addition of off-ice training, which made it stand out from other options.
